What We've Been Up To

The Tuesaday before Thanksgiving, I woke up at 5am because EK was whining in her sleep. When I walked to her room it sounded like water was running in the kitchen. I walked out to the den/kitchen and found water pouring out of the ceiling and ceiling fan. A pipe had a hole in it in the attic and had leaked for who knows how long. So, here is what we got to deal with:

Wet carper that had to be pulled up

Ceiling fan busted

Cracks in ceiling

And water damage

More water damage on carpet (thought the carpet needed to go anyways, it was getting bad!)

This was the carpet pad after we pulled up the carpet. This is how much was wet

And the linoleum that was underneath the carpet. Nasty!!!

The ceiling coming down once the repair man got there

Show Us Your Life - Master and Guest Rooms

Well, we don't have a guest room because we only have 3 bedrooms and we have 2 kids, so I will just show you the master bedroom. It has taken until just recently for me to really feel like this room is complete. It was always a hodge podge of random stuff and falling apart stuff and baby beds. But now I feel like it is cozy and perfect!

I bought the quilt set and new curtains this year with Christmas money and I LOVE them!
This little corner always had a pack and play or boxes or something random in it. Now I feel like it is cozy with Scott's grandmother's old rocking chair. My little table keeps my Bible, a lamp and a spray bottle to spray the cat when she decides to wake us up at 5:30am on a Saturday!

Scott's dresser with a necklace hanger that I made from Pinterest

We painted this dresser a few months ago and I love it! It holds some sewing knickknacks, an old fan and has a picture of EmmyKate over it that a student drew for me. We need to get one done of Easton soon.

And my dresser which should have a mirror, but it fell off. To the left you can see our bathroom and to the right is our walk in closet.

The picture hanging above my dresser. Scott's family got it for us for Christmas and I love how it completes the room

A Hole in the Yard

We have had a little hole in our yard by the sidewalk for a few months now, so we finally decided to call a plumber out to look at it. The first plumber said it was a hole in our sewer line and it was going to cost a ton of money. Then I called a friend to have her husband look at it and he couldn't fix it, but had a friend that could and would give us a better price. So we now have a new sewer line for our house and a torn up yard!

The pipe for the sewer for the original cement pipe from 1957. The hole in the pipe was the length of my forearm, so we definately needed a new one.

Show Us Your Home - Kitchens

This week on Kelly's Korner, we are doing kitchens! This is probably my favorite room of the entire house. I love it because it is so big. My mom always had a big kitchen when we were growing up, so when we bought a house, I knew I wanted something just like hers that was huge and opened up to the den. So that is just what we got. The only thing I want to change is the floor (I hate white tile with a passion!)

View of the main things in the kitchen

Old calendar from the 1930's

My bowl of onions (I use onion in just about everything we eat!)

Display of old odd things I have found (like a cookie mold for the refrigerator, corn shucker, the old address off our house!). The picture hanging is pictures of my father-in-law and his brother growing up

I love this old cabinet that my mom found at a garage sale; love turquoise right now!

So, as you can see, I love old things and I love old things for the kitchen in particular. Thanks for stopping by!

Baseball Nursery

The last 2 days my mom and I have spent sewing stuff for Easton's nursery. I love, love, love the way it turned out. Once again, I did the cutting and my mom did the sewing because sewing machines and I do not get along well together.

We made the dust ruffle and rug. The blue is chenille and then the brown has a diamond pattern on it.
Here's a close-up of the dust ruffle
We made the valance to match the dust ruffle and I love the way it turned out!
A pillow that we made to match it all and the boppy pillow with his name

Here is his dresser. We are doing the nursery in a vintage baseball theme and this is on of the shelves that we have stuff on. I used the same fabric on the lampshade that I used on the dust ruffle and valance.

Show Us Where You Live - Master Bedrooms

This week on Kelly's Korner, she is showcasing Master Bedrooms. So welcome to our room!

This is looking into our room from the hallway (the master bath is to your left)
This is my dresser and looking into the bathroom. This dresser was given to us for free by someone that S worked for!
This is looking at our TV and the other dresser
A close-up of S's dresser
The stuff that sits on top. That is a picture of my great grandparents (it is my favorite picture of them), a box that S gave me filled with all the letters he has written me, an old fan and then the Lord's Prayer that my Nana stitched when she was a teenager

These sit on my dresser. The pink tray was something my great grandmother put her jewelry on every night. I love that I get to use it in the same way and it makes me think of her every time I take my ring and earrings off. This box was made by my hubby!

This is our little nightstand with the books that we are reading (well, mostly just me reading) and then some pictures of the 2 of us

This is a picture of our little one, EK, that was done by one of my mom's high school students; she is very talented! The other is a poem that S gave me when I graduated from high school.

Thanks for stopping by today!

Show Us Where You Live - Bathrooms

This week at Kelly's Korner, she is doing bathrooms, so welcome!

This is looking down our hallway. There is a bedroom behind you, then one on the right and the master bedroom is straight ahead. The 2 bathrooms are on the left.

This is EK's bathroom. It is very tiny and looks there's her cute little potty seat!

Her sink with pictures

I love this old shelf. We had one in my bathroom growing up and we had that sampler hanging in our bathroom.

A few of another sampler and EK's bathrobe

Then this is our master bath (the same size as EK's bath and they back up to each other)

Another shelf like the first one, though a little different

I love this old picture that I found for $.25

Looking out into our bedroom

And then our tiny shower. We would love to expand this bathroom one day
Thanks for stopping by!

Show Us Where You Live - Children's Rooms/Nurseries

This week for Kelly's Korner's Show Us Where You Live, we are to do Children's Rooms/Nurseries. Since I have now done 2 rooms for EK, I decided I would post both of them.

Nursery
I can't find any pictures of her nursery completed finished, but you will get the idea. Also, imagine this room with hardwood floors because the carpet is gone now! We are patiently waiting to get pregnant with our 2nd, so for right now this room sleeps with no child in it.

The theme in her room was Paddington Bear. I had always known that I would do this theme for my first child.
Another view of the dresser and the toy chest that was mine as a little girl. Also imagine a valence up that matches that lamp on the dresser.

The changing table that eventually was overtaken by blankets, burp rags, etc!

We found this dresser at an antique shop in Brownwood, Texas, home of Howard Payne University (where S and I went as well as my 2 sisters!)

Upclose of her crib
Big Girl Room
We moved EK into her Big Girl Room at her birthday last year (when she was 3). I love it because it is girly!
Her Big Girl Bed. I wanted greens and pinks in the room and this quilt was perfect!

The letters that my sweet mother-in-law made for EK. Aren't they cute!

Her dresser with a little lamp, a picture of her in my sister's wedding, some old milk glass and the picture that hung in her nursery

The dollhouse that my father-in-law made her right after she was born. I have all of her dolls up there (well, most of them anyways!)
Now, head on over to Kelly's Korner and check out the other rooms for today!
